Liverpool are being linked with a move for Napoli’s Slovakian midfielder Marek Hamsik.

Reports are surfacing in the Italian press that Roy Hodgson is set to renew interest in a player formerly linked with a move to Anfield under Rafa Benitez – who may be interested in taking the player to Inter Milan.

A likely problem in the deal would be the valuation placed on the player by Napoli, with reports suggesting they would want upwards of £15m for the World Cup midfielder.

Hamsik is Slovakia’s international captain and current player of the year.

Luke Young is set to reject a £2.5m to Liverpool.

The Aston Villa defender had looked likely to become part of Roy Hodgson’s Anfield revolution, but he has told the club he does not wish to move his family further away from their London roots.

The former England right-back had reportedly been holding on for a pay-off from Villa after accepting a paycut to join the Reds, but these reports are said to be untrue with geography being his main reason for not wanting to complete the deal.

Young is set to join up with his Villa team-mates on their trip to Portugal tonight and Hodgson will have to continue his search for recruits in the full-back areas elsewhere.

The Italian media are reporting that Inter Milan will offer Sulley Muntari plus cash for want-away midfielder Javier Mascherano.

The Argentina captain has told Roy Hodgson in no uncertain terms that he wishes to follow former boss Rafael Benitez to the San Siro.

The Italian club are not happy to offer the full £25m asking price though, so an offer of £12.5m plus the Ghana international in exchange.

Hodgson may prefer to take a full cash amount for the midfielder, but the addition of the former Portsmouth man to his midfield may help him to accept the offer on the table.

Muntari joined Inter in a €16 million from Portsmouth during José Mourinho’s reign at the European Champions, but Benitez has told the midfielder is not in his plans and would surely jump at the chance of a switch to Anfield.

Mascherano is likely to leave the club sooner rather than later after Hodgson confirmed that he had been informed of the player’s desire to leave Anfield.

“Yes, he wants to leave the club,” confirmed Hodgson.

“He has made that perfectly clear. I think he wanted to leave a year ago.”

Reports in Spain are claiming that Liverpool have made an approach to Real Madrid for Dutchman Royston Drenthe.

Earlier this week a message was posted on Facebook by someone claiming to be Drenthe saying that he had signed for Liverpool. It was soon revealed to be a hoax, however.

Despite this being unmasked as a falsehood, Roy Hodgson is said to have approached his Real Madrid counterpart José Mourinho regarding a move for the former Feyenoord man.

Hodgson is in desperate need of a left-back with Fabio Aurelio already departed and Emiliano Insua set to join Fiorentina.

Roy Hodgson has been linked with a surprise move for Aston Villa’s Stylian Petrov in the last 24 hours.

The former Celtic man has been in quietly assured form for Martin O’Neill’s men and could be seen by Liverpool’s new manager as the man to replace departing Javier Mascherano.

A bid of around £7m is being mooted in the reports – but whether that is enough to persuade Villa to part with their important schemer is another matter.

If Mascherano makes his likely exit, Lucas will be the only available senior option for Hodgson in the central midfield for the start of the new season.

Liverpool’s Spanish starlet Dani Pacheco has said that he would welcome a move back to Spain with Real Sociedad.

Pacheco has been in great form for Spain’s Under-19 side in France and has attracted the attention of the La Liga newcomers – and he has welcomed the news.

“Of course, playing for Real appeals to me, without doubt. I have heard good things about the club, the city and the people, and if things move in that direction, I will be happy to play there.” he said.

“I’d like to play in La Liga. Above all I want game time or to fight for game time.”

“In Liverpool I won’t get this opportunity and I would love to have it. Right now the club are signing people and I don’t think I will have opportunities.”

“At 19 years old the most important thing is to continue progressing.”

Former Red Xabi Alonso has been in touch with the youngster advising him on what to expect should he join Sociedad.

“He has been helping and advising me,” Pacheco said.

“I’ve been told good things about the coach. They say he bets on youngsters who have character, who like to play.”

“I’ve been told about Zubieta , the way they work and the humilty of the club. Everything I hear is good.”

The odds on Manchester City left-back Wayne Bridge joining Liverpool have been slashed heavily after rumours of a mass sale at Eastlands have spread.

Bridge, along with Craig Bellamy, Stephen Ireland, Roque Santa Cruz, Nedum Onouha, and Shaun Wright-Phillips is looking increasingly likely to depart the big-spenders this Summer with the new twenty-man squad ruling coming into effect this season.

Aleksander Kolarov has been signed from Lazio leaving the former England man very much second choice for the slot at City – and Roy Hodgson is set to pounce in the coming days to sign a much needed left-back.

Fabio Aurelio has already departed Anfield and Emiliano Insua looks set to join Fiorentina provided he can agree terms on his contract with the Serie A club.

Sky Bet odds for Bridge’s next club:

Liverpool – 4/6
Tottenham – 7/1
Aston Villa – 9/1
Newcastle – 16/1

Aston Villa right-back Luke Young is set for a surprise move to Anfield after Aston Villa accepted a £2.5m bid from Roy Hodgson – who has previously tried to sign Young for Fulham.

Young’s arrival is unlikely to excite the Kop, but his versatility and nationality would boost the squad in two key areas. Hodgson needs to ensure that he has sufficient homegrown talent in his squad and is also short in both full-back departments.

Fabio Aurelio has been released following an injury-plagued spell at the club, Emiliano Insua is set to join Italian side Fiorentina and Philipp Degen has been told he is free to find another club.

Martin O’Neill has been looking to offload the defender for a while as he is one of the highest paid squad members at Villa Park. Young still has three years remaining on his contract and is also attracting interest from Sunderland.

“A fee has been agreed with Liverpool. We’re now in discussions about Luke’s contract.” said Andy Evans, the player’s agent.

Steven Gerrard has hailed the arrival of Joe Cole at Anfield – and given the biggest indication yet of where his future lies.

“It’s a great signing for us” said the Liverpool skipper. “I know Joe well through the England set-up and have seen first hand just how good a player he is.

“He’s proved his ability over many years in the Premier League, sometimes against us – so it will be fantastic to play alongside him in a red shirt for Liverpool.

“I’ve told him what a great club this is and I’m sure Joe’s the sort of exciting talent our fans will love to see.”

“I made it clear that I simply needed to concentrate on the World Cup and then have a decent holiday with my family.

“I wanted the chance to meet Roy Hodgson privately and having done so I’m very impressed with his plans for the future of the team.

“I’ve only returned to training today at Melwood with some of the other World Cup players, but I can’t wait for the new season to start.”

Reports are claiming that Roy Hodgson is chasing Paul Konchesky from former club Fulham.

After the departures of Fabio Aurelio and Emiliano Insua, The Reds are in need of a new left-back and the 29 year old English defender would be available for a reasonable fee according to talk.

Birmingham City have been chasing Konchesky for some months now and would pose competition for the ex-Charlton and Spurs full-back.

Liverpool have today confirmed the signing of England international midfielder Joe Cole on a four year deal.

The former Chelsea man will undergo a medical examination in the next two days before formally completing his move to Anfield.

Roy Hodgson has been courting the former West Ham man since arriving as the new Liverpool manager and has finally landed his man.

Tottenham and Arsenal were seen as the favourites to sign Cole, with West Ham also putting a big money offer on the table, but Hodgson managed to persuade him to move to Liverpool despite the lack of Champions League football.

A reported wage of £90,000 has been mentioned in the press this week, with Carlo Ancelotti suggesting money is Cole’s motivating factor – but West Ham are reported to have offered him £125,000 per week.

It is unknown which squad number Cole will wear, but many will see him as a natural for the number seven.

Sky Sports are reporting that Spanish winger Albert Riera is set to leave the club.

His future has been under the microscope since he fell out with ex-boss Rafa Benitez – and Greek side Olympiakos are said to be keen on his signature.

The report claim that Olympiakos vice-president Sokrates Kominakis is in England for talks over the player previously close to a move to Spartak Moscow.

The fee could be a stumbling block with the club asking for over £4m for his services and Olympiakos only prepared to pay closer to £3m.

“He is not for sale” says boss by lfctalk

Roy Hodgson has dismissed speculation linking Fernando Torres with a move to Chelsea – or any other interested club.

The new Kop boss has told the press that he will not entertain any offers for the World Cup winning striker: “He is not for sale and we don’t welcome any offers for him. We want to keep him.”

It is a difficult task for Hodgson after joining the club, as he also has to fend off interest in the likes of Steven Gerrard, Javier Mascherano and Pepe Reina.
