The Daily Star are reporting that Stoke, Fulham, Sunderland, Blackburn and Tottenham have all made enquiries as to whether Sami Hyypia is available for transfer this month.

The Finland international defender has also attracted attention from Serie A and Die Bundesliga along with Scottish champions Celtic and Turkish giants Fenerbahçe.

Despite being left out of the Champions League squad this season, the veteran centre-back has made several appearances in the Premiership and has continued his good form from last season.

These enquiries are unlikely to bring any success to the sides wishing to sign him, given his continuing importance to Rafael Benitez.

Alvaro Arbeloa has insisted that the side can cope without Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard on Saturday against rivals Manchester United.

The twosome are seen as the key elements of the Reds side and will be major losses to the side if they fail to return from injury in time for the clash.

Arbeloa told Liverpoolfc.tv: “Fernando and Stevie are really important for us and they are probably our best players. But we have a really good squad and know we have other really good players too. We can still beat Manchester United without Fernando and Stevie.

“It will be a hard game for us, but it will also be tough for them. Their defenders have to play against players like Yossi Benayoun, Dirk Kuyt and Robbie Keane.

“This year is really important for us because we have a fantastic team with great players. I think we can be successful. We now have people like Robbie Keane, who is a really good player, and Albert Riera too.”

Riera could make his second Premiership debut against United and Arbeloa is sure the Spaniard is the man the side has been missing.

“I’ve played with him once for Spain against Italy and I think he’s a really good player,” said the full-back.

“We didn’t have a player like Riera, so he is a good signing. I think he could be a really good player for us because he played with Man City three years ago and has experience.

“All the Spanish players have been talking to him and he is a really good guy. Talking to the other Spanish players can only make it easier for him.”
