Reports today are claiming that Liverpool have made a loan move for German striker Mario Gomez.

Sources in Germany say that Roy Hodgson has made a bid to take the Germany international on a season long loan deal – but his £125k a week wages are a massive stumbling block to any deal.

José Mourinho had been lining up the tall striker as a more reachable alternative to Didier Drogba and Emmanuel Adebayor, after being knocked back in moves for both African Premiership-based frontmen by Chelsea and Manchester City respectively.

Hodgson has realised quickly that he needs to take the goalscoring burden off of Fernando Torres’ shoulders as he only has David N’Gog to support the World Cup winner.

Any move for the Bayern Munich striker depends on his willingness to move to England, and a club without Champions League football, and also as to whether the German champions will foot part of his wage as the Anfield hierarchy will not sanction his lofty wage.
