Sky Sports are reporting that Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Paul Konchesky from Fulham.

Roy Hodgson has admitted that he wants to sign a new left-back this Summer after unsuccessfully trying to offload Emiliano Insua to Fiorentina and Genoa and resigning Fabio Aurelio.

Hodgson is well aware of the capabilities of Konchesky having worked with him at Craven Cottage for more than two seasons.

Despite being linked with the more reputable Carlos Salcido, it seems that Hodgson has decided to opt for the English left-back – who has just a year left on his deal with Fulham.

Birmingham City were also being linked with a move for the twice capped Englishman, but it would seem his connection to Hodgson and the lure of Anfield will win out should he move on.

Hodgson’s replacement at Fulham, Mark Hughes, was hoping to hang on to Konchesky, but a bid of around £3.5m could see the defender switch to Anfield.
