Roy Hodgson has confirmed the club have been interested in Loic Remy since before his appointment as manager – but is not sure whether he wants to sign the player.

The French forward has been linked with both West Ham and Tottenham in recent weeks after impressing at Nice following his move from Lyon a couple of years ago.

With Fernando Torres’s future under the microscope, the youngster may be ushered in as his replacement in the coming weeks.

Despite reports to the contrary, Liverpool have not made a bid for the player as yet, but Hodgson is weighing up a move.

“He’s a player who was mentioned to me by the scouting department and a player the club were following before I came.”

“He’s a player I know very little about. If I am going to be interested in a player I am going to have to watch him playing, study him and make judgments which I have not been able to.”

Eduardo Macia is reported to have been tracking the player for five years – which could see Rafa Benitez try to sign him for Inter Milan.
