Carlos Tevez could be set for a remarkable switch to either Liverpool or Manchester City – to the aggravation of United boss Alex Ferguson.

Tevez’s gesture asking scoring against City yesterday appeared to mock the United board’s silence over a long-term deal.

The Argentine striker was also quoted in the morning press as saying he feels that a move away from Old Trafford is imminent – sparking further interest from the mounting queue of European giants seeking his signature this Summer.

It is understood his advisers will today begin the search for a new club – which will include Liverpool, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan and reports also claim that Tottenham will make an ambitious move.

United would have to fork out £32m to make the deal permanent, and have already spent £10m on a two-year loan arrangement for his services. Ferguson may be unwilling to part with such a hefty amount for a player that has barely featured this season – but he insists that there have been no developments so far.

“Nothing has changed. He is a Manchester United player.” he said after the Manchester derby.
