Steven Gerrard will go for a scan on his groin today amid fears he was injured in last night’s 3-1 humiliation by Chelsea.

The Reds captain left the field in pain after a hard night’s work for his team ended in severe disappointment and a likely exit from European competition.

The midfielder had surgery on his groin last August and this new concern over his fitness could jeopardise Liverpool’s hopes of staying in the title race.

Gerrard was poor, by his high standards, last night and looks very likely to miss both the visit of Blackburn on Saturday and the return leg against Chelsea next Tuesday.
