The Times is reporting that Liverpool and Manchester City are monitoring the progress of Michael Mancienne with a view to making a transfer bid.
The Chelsea defender’s contract expires at the end of next season and both clubs are considering attempting to snap him up with the potential of more first-team football.
The 21 year old is set to begin discussions with the Chelsea money-men in the Summer, but it is by no means guaranteed that he will agree new terms after the disappointment of not getting much first-team recognition this season.
Mancienne returned from a successful loan spell at Wolves in January, but Guus Hiddink has preferred John Terry, Ricardo Carvalho and Alex at the centre of his defence.
Mancienne will listen to Chelsea’s plans for him in the summer but will take an open-minded approach to other offers, particularly those from high-profile Premier League clubs.
