German side Hertha Berlin have begun discussions with Liverpool regarding the possibility of extending Andrei Voronin’s stay with the Bundesliga leaders.

The Ukrainian striker is currently on a season-long loan deal with the Berlin club, but they want to extend his stay.

Liverpool’s reported £4.4million asking price could put Hertha off making a bid, but the possibility of a second loan season is in the pipeline.

Voronin continued his good form for the club with both goals in the weekend’s 2-1 win over Bayern Munich.

“Yes, we have now talked for the first time,” Voronin confirmed to Bild.

Voronin’s agent, Andriy Golovach, added: “It was a good conversation, I think we are on a good way.”

Hertha’s general manager Dieter Hoeness is confident a new deal will go through also.

“Both parties are willing to continue. We really appreciate Andriy’s performances,” he said.

“His goals, his experience and his demeanour. And he has also said Hertha is a priority for him, because he likes the club and the city very much.”

“We now know we have to work on solutions for this.”
