Captain Steven Gerrard faces three weeks out of action after suffering a hamstring injury against Everton in the FA Cup replay defeat last night.

This morning’s scan has revealed that he has a tear, which is likely to see him out of action for as much as a month or as little as a fortnight.

He will definitely miss this weekend’s trip to Portsmouth and next week’s England trip to face Spain in an international friendly.

The 28 year old will also miss the visit of Manchester City to Anfield and could also be out of action for the trip to face Real Madrid a few days later.

A club spokesman told Liverpool.tv: “A scan today has confirmed a tear in the hamstring of Steven’s left leg. He will be out of action for about three weeks.”
