Former Reds striker David Speedie has warned the current Liverpool side not to let the FA Cup clashes against Everton distract them from their fight for the title.

Speedie was in the Reds side of 1990/91 that missed out on the league title, coming second, after three FA Cup fixtures with Everton.

“Those particular games take a lot out of players,” he told setanta.com.

“The atmosphere is so draining, that is what I found. I made my home debut for Liverpool against Everton, and then played them the following week in the FA Cup.”

“Two derby games in a week is demanding on a team, it is draining.”
