The Independent is reporting that Rafael Benitez is considering an offer from Spurs of Aaron Lennon or Jermaine Jenas plus cash in exchange for his for their former striker Robbie Keane.

Harry Redknapp has recently indicated his desire to bring the Irishman back to White Hart Lane. But the Spurs boss also said he didn’t think a deal was possible.

Any deal hinges on whether Keane would accept a move back to the club he only left last Summer. Liverpool would not have to pay the outstanding balance on that deal, which is estimated to be around £11m, just over half of the £20.3m originally paid.

Keane is back in the Liverpool squad for the trip to Wigan tonight after being omitted from Sunday’s squad to face Everton in the FA Cup.

Benitez was given several opportunities to state that Keane has a long-term future yesterday, but the Spaniard did not take any of them. That could be the indicator Keane needed to push him into a move, despite his apparent desire to work for his Anfield place.
