Steven Gerrard heads to North Sefton magistrates court today for the first hearing of his charge of assault and affray.

The rest of the Liverpool squad are busy preparing for Sunday’s FA Cup Fourth Round visit from Everton, while their captain heads to court. He will be accompanied by his legal team and will see a strong police presence at the hearing.

The incident happened at The Lounge Inn in the early hours of 29th December of last year. Marcus McGee, a 34-year-old DJ was working at the bar at the time, allegedly lost a tooth in the fight and required hospital treatment after sustaining cuts to his face.

John Doran, 29, and Ian Gerard Smith, 19, both of Huyton, Liverpool, are also accused of assault and affray. Six men were arrested in total.
