Lucas Leiva has stated his desire to improve as a player and come back from what he calls “bad times” earlier this season.

He told Liverpoolfc.tv: “I have had some bad times, especially the last time I started at Anfield against Fulham but you just have to keep your head up and keep working hard.

“I’m trying to improve in every game and hopefully I can show my quality every time I play.”

The Reds have managed to stay top of the Premiership despite yet another draw and the Brazilian feels it’s essential for them to get three points against Bolton on Boxing Day.

He said: “We must now focus on our next game and try to get the three points at Anfield.

“We have had three draws in a row at home so it’s important we win this game. We need to win our home games.

“Our supporters are always behind us and we want to send them home happy with a win.

“We are at the top of the league and we have to keep going. We have to be confident and just do our job.

“Everybody at this club wants to win the league and we will try our best to make that happen.”
