Anfield exodus set for January? by lfctalk

Several Anfield fringe men could be set for a January departure to fund any potential spending by Kop boss Rafael Benitez.

Robbie Keane, Andrea Dossena, Daniel Agger, Yossi Benayoun and Jermaine Pennant are all being linked with the Anfield exit in order to provide Benitez with the necessary cash to boost his side’s title charge.

George Gillett and Tom Hicks are unlikely to provide Benitez with any cash for a spending spree as they need to service the interest on their £350m loan from the Wachovia bank. A repayment is due by January 25th, but they could invoke a six month extension on that installment.

City sources believe the banks will accept the delay as long as the interest is being serviced, which will tie up the overwhelming majority of any money made by the Merseyside club.

Each American has been hit by the global financial downturn. Hicks is trying to cut the wage bills at both of his US sporting interests, ice hockey’s Dallas Stars and baseball outfit Texas Rangers, while sources in Canada believe Gillett could be tempted to cash in on the Montreal Canadiens.

Robbie Keane’s goal at The Emirates on Sunday may be enough to make Benitez think twice before trying to sell the Irishman, but his fate may have already been sealed after a disappointing start to his Anfield career.
