Jermaine Pennant is set to stay at Anfield for another season after reports emerged that the club are set to take up the option of extending his deal into it’s fourth season.

The winger looked set to leave the club this Summer after being linked with moves to Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United. Stoke City went as far as making a £5m bid for the uncapped Englishman, but he rejected a switch to the Britannia Stadium. Despite Paul Ince being credited with an interest several times through the transfer window, the Blackburn boss never made a bid for the player.

The news comes as a surprise as Pennant hasn’t appeared for the Reds yet this season.
