Liverpool miss out on Spaniard by lfctalk

Real Betis signed attacker Sergio Garcia from Real Zaragoza after beating off reported competition for the player from Premiership sides Liverpool, Tottenham and West Ham.

Garcia was a member of Spain’s Euro 2008 winning squad and was linked with a move away from Zaragoza all Summer.

The Spaniard joined Zaragoza from Levante in 2005 after impressing in his single season there. He had started his career with Barcelona and despite making an impact in their youth setup was allowed to leave for Levante in 2004 after making only a few appearances for Barca.

Manuel Ruiz de Lopera of Betis signalled their intentions to sign Garcia on Saturday by stating: “The signing of Sergio Garcia will not be dependant on the sale of any player.”
