Fabio Capello has named John Terry as his permanent captain for the England side with the other frontrunner, Rio Ferdinand, as his vice-captain.

Gerrard had been an outside bet to get the nod under the Italian’s regime, but has lost out to previous captain Terry.

The news will not disappoint many Reds fans, however, as many saw the opportunity as a distraction for the Anfield captain.

I am happier to see him as just another player in the England side.

I don’t support the national side and would rather Reds weren’t involved. I don’t want all the pressure and expectation to distract them from doing their best for the club.

Terry is the wrong man though. His attitude isn’t good and he doesn’t come across as someone to set an example…like when he spat at Tevez in Moscow for instance.
