Voronin set for Hamburg move? by lfctalk

Martin Jol’s Hamburg could be turning to Andrei Voronin after being priced out of a move for Dirk Kuyt.

The Ukrainian has years of experience in the Bundesliga and also a large reputation in Germany. The frontman has not settled into life at Anfield either on or off the pitch and could be set for a fairly quick return to his adopted homeland.

The striker has been quoted as saying: “It looks as if there will be no honest competition for my position. I think it has been filled whatever I do.” That was reported to be a reaction to being left on the bench against Standard Liege despite the poor quality attacking on the night from the Reds. Him not being used as a substitute on Wednesday night, along with Jermaine Pennant, could be an indication that each player is being spared cup-tied status in Europe to help facilitate a move to fund more new arrivals.

The striker has seen himself behind the likes of David N’Gog, Krisztian Nemeth and Dani Pacheco in the preseason team selections, which may only have been a case of blooding the talented youngsters. But the ponytailed 29 year old looks set to be moved on before the end of the transfer window.
