Gareth Barry’s hopes of a move to Anfield are dimishing by the day at the moment. The England midfielder looks set to remain with Aston Villa for the coming season after boarding the plane with his team-mates for their UEFA Cup tie tomorrow night.

Martin O’Neill has included the 27 year old in his squad for the UEFA Cup second qualifying round first leg against FH Hafnarfjordur tomorrow night and is likely to play the wantaway star.

Rafael Benitez is yet to publicly give up hope of signing him, but his chances look to be running lower with each passing day. If the midfielder features tomorrow night, he would be unavailable for Liverpool’s Champions League group stage fixtures should they beat Standard Liege and reach that stage of the competition.
