Barcelona are reported to be preparing a £25m bid for Argentine midfielder Javier Mascherano.

The European champions have made it very clear that they see the diminutive midfielder as the perfect partner for Xavi and Andres Iniesta in their side.

The Mirror are claiming that Barcelona will offer Mascherano £80,000 a week, and the player’s agent, Walter Tamer, has previously claimed he would be interested in a move to the Nou Camp.

Losing Mascherano would be major headache for Rafael Benitez, especially as Xabi Alonso looks increasingly likely to return to Spain with Real Madrid sooner rather than later.

The financial situation at Anfield could see Benitez forced into selling not one but both of his midfield duo – which would leave him desperately searching the market for replacements having already missed out on Gareth Barry.

Oh my god stop with this “financial situation” crap, just FUCKING STOP. There is no fucking financial situation worth noting. Gillet has already sold one franchise and Hicks is looking to sell at least one, making their debt non existent and any debt we have belongs to them, not LFC, anyway. We have a minimum of 20 million for transfers at the start of the market before players sales and we DO NOT NEED TO SELL. Apparently no one noticed that we already bought Johnson for 17 mil. Where are these articles for those rent boys and filthy mancs? With a combined debt of over a billion GBP. Where? Why is it every time that their far inferior players are linked with another club no one ever reports “the financial situation will force Manure/rents boys to cash in”????
