Xabi Alonso has dropped a major hint that he wants to join Real Madrid.
The midfielder was in Madrid on Monday night having dinner with his agent, Inaki Ibanez, and was approached by Spanish daily AS, who asked him about his future.
“I don’t know what is going to happen,” said Alonso. “It is up to the clubs to negotiate now.”
AS report that Liverpool have set a deadline of July 19 for the transfer to be completed, with right-back Alvaro Arbeloa also expected to complete a £5m switch to the Bernabeu.
The Spanish paper is notorious for propaganda in favour of Real Madrid, however.

Andrea Dossena’a agent has revealed that the Italian is happy at Anfield and is no longer seeking a move back to Serie A.
The former Udinese left-back previously stated his satisfaction with life on Merseyside, but then he reversed that call by declaring himself ready to move to Juventus.
“Juve are on standby at the moment. They are making their mind up,” said agent Roberto La Florio.
“It seems like their first target is a midfielder and all their budget will be going towards that signing.”
“We are happy to stay at Anfield. There is no problem at all. I believe the Bianconeri won’t be buying either Andrea or Fabio Grosso. They will probably bank on Paolo De Ceglie and Cristian Molinaro.”
While Dossena is reported to be happy at Anfield, Rafael Benitez is said to be very keen to offload the flop.
Benitez is said to have touted the Italian to several clubs and only Juventus have shown mild interest in the defender at the price suggested. The Spaniard may consider cutting his losses and selling the full-back on the cheap, but even that may prove tricky.
Dossena was part of the Italy squad at the Confederations Cup. He scored an own goal against Brazil and reports suggest that could have been his last outing for his country while Marcello Lippi is in charge.

Former Liverpool striker Dean Saunders is in talks with Ryan Flynn about a possible return to Wrexham on loan next season.
The youngster spent the back end of last season on loan with the Welsh side and his agent has confirmed that Rafael Benitez wants to farm him out once again this season.
Saunders faces tough competition to sign the youngster, but hopes his previous time at the Racecourse will help persuade him to continue there.
However, Saunders is hopeful he can persuade Flynn to return to the Racecourse after a spell in North Wales gave the Scottish youngster’s career the perfect boost last season.
“I’m hopeful he’ll come to us, although I know he’s probably got options.” he said.
“I’m hoping he’ll come back to us, and I’m hoping he’ll come back training stronger and fitter as he’ll be a year older. Hopefully he’ll have learned from last year and the time he spent with us will have done him good.”
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez believes another temporary switch will continue Flynn’s development, and a number of clubs are interested in him.
“Liverpool are prepared to loan out Ryan during this summer’s transfer window.” said his agent, David Threlfall.
“This is a big year for Ryan and he wants to be playing regular first-team football to continue his development. I have had a few enquiries for Ryan and we will sit down and decide what is the best option for him before deciding where to go.”
Flynn is an academy graduate at Anfield, he made the step up in 2006 after being signed from Scottish outfit Falkirk.
He was a key part of the club’s successive FA Youth Cup wins, scoring in the final against Manchester City in 2006 and also hitting three goals during the 2007 season.
He is yet to make his senior debut for Liverpool but has featured in a number of pre-season friendlies.

Winger Paul Anderson has made his loan move to Nottingham Forest a permanent one after signing a three year deal for £250,000.
The youngster never made the step up to the first-team at Anfield, but he believes he could be in line for top-flight football with his new club.
“Everyone’s ambition is to play in the Premiership and play at the highest level possible and I think we’re going to do that at this club.” he said.
“The ambition I’ve seen and the players I’ve seen at the club, there’s no reason why in the next couple of years we can’t be up in the Premiership.”
“I’d love to go back to Anfield one day and show them what they have missed out on really.”
Anderson, who scored two goals in 28 appearances for Forest last season, turned down the chance to sign for Swansea City.
He arrived at Anfield from Hull City in January 2006 but failed to live up to expectations and never made a competitive first team appearance.

Winger Sebastian Leto has joined Greek club Panathinaikos.
The 22 year old Argentine spent last season on loan at their Greek league rivals Olympiakos after passport problems prevented him from playing domestically for The Reds.
Leto was signed from Lanus for £2m in the Summer of 2007 and made his debut in a Champions League qualifier against Toulouse shortly after.
He went on to make three further appearances for the club, but failed to make an impact and was mainly on reserve duty before moving to Greece.
