Robbie Keane has spoken out to explain why he did not celebrate scoring Tottenham’s goal in their 3-1 defeat on Sunday.
“Over the years you would have seen that I never celebrate against my former clubs when I score against them, so this was no different,” he said.
“But as a striker its always nice to score, regardless of who it’s against and despite the amount of hype around my return before the game.”
“To think we only had two points from eight games and people were talking about us possibly being relegated, and then finishing the season in eighth place,” he said.
“We saw some big clubs get relegated over the weekend, so we have to be pleased with the way we have performed in the second half of the season.”
The Irishman’s conduct may have earned admiration from many supporters, but a lot of Spurs fans will be annoyed that he appeared to treat the opposition’s fans with more respect than them.
