Everton defender Phil Jagielka has urged his team-mates to take the opportunity to gain revenge over rivals Liverpool for the 2-0 defeat at Goodison Park earlier this season.

Speaking to the Daily Post the Englishman has stated his desire to get one over on their city rivals.

“It’s a terrific draw for everyone, especially the fans,” he said. “There will be a special atmosphere I’m sure and the fact that we play them just a few days earlier in the league makes it even more interesting.”

“We didn’t do ourselves justice at Goodison Park earlier in the season but we’ve got two chances to put that right now.”

“Derby games are always fantastic occasions and so to meet each other in the FA Cup is great for the supporters.”

“I don’t suppose either team would have wanted this draw, but it’s something to really look forward to.”

The forward came on as a substitute in the 2-0 win at Preston on Saturday and capped his return by scoring the second goal.

“Always it is frustrating when you are not playing and missing games,” Torres told the Liverpool Daily Post.

“You want to be out there helping your team-mates and working hard, but the injury is in the past now.

“I have forgotten about it and I am only looking forward.

“I hope all my hamstring injuries are over and that I can keep playing and scoring for Liverpool.

“The team has shown they can win without Stevie and without me. That is very important. It shows that we play as a team.”

Rafael Benitez has spoken of his excitement at being drawn to play local rivals Everton in the next round of the FA Cup.

After beating Preston 2-0 on Saturday, the Reds reward is a home tie against their fierce rivals from over Stanley Park.

He told Liverpoolfc.tv:

“It is a draw which will excite everyone in the city because everyone knows about the great rivalry that exists between the two clubs,” said Benitez.

“But we must remember that we have some big games coming up in the league before the cup tie and we will be taking one game at a time.

“Only when the cup game comes around will it become our focus and before then we play Stoke and Everton in the league so we must keep our focus on those matches.

“But it is good to have so many important matches because it shows that your team is doing well.”

Liverpool v Everton will be on the weekend of January 24/25.

It will come as a blow to the Reds captain, who must surely be fearing for his international future.

While the Dane still hasn’t agreed terms on a new contract, Rafael Benitez could be tempted to cash in on the stopper rather than lose him for nothing in 2010.
